Round FOUR : Alba Storm go top
Alba Storm recorded a thumping victory over Birmingham Lions in Glasgow to go to the top of the PSL table, as RAC beat St George’s 3-1 and Crawley beat Pontefract on points countback.
As the 2022/23 PSL season crossed the halfway point, it was Alba Storm who recorded the best win of the night, beating Birmingham Lions 4-0 to amass 14 points which takes them to the top of the table.
Alison Thomson and Rory Stewart set the home side on winning ways with 3-0 wins, and husband and wife pairing Greg and Donna Lobban both claimed 3-1 wins to secure maximum points – with Greg’s match against Mostafa El Sirty featuring three ‘sudden-death’ games!
Points countback was needed for the first time at Crawley, as Torrie Malik and Katie Malliff put the home side 2-0 up against Pontefract, who levelled the match courtesy of Patrick Rooney and Saurav Ghosal.
With eight games each on the board, it was Crawley who took the narrowest of wins 142-130 on points.
In the battle of the 2019 and 2018 champions, home side RAC took a 3-0 lead over St George’s courtesy of Grace Gear, Ben Coleman and Satomi Watanabe, with Joel Makin reducing the deficit for the visitors in the final match.
It’s still tight at the top of the table, with ten points separating the top three, with RAC and Crawley not far behind with a match in hand.
Round Five is on 21st Feb, Birmingham v Crawley, Pontefract v Nottingham and RAC v alba Storm.
