Wins for RAC, St George’s and Alba Storm in Round Three
The third round of the Premier Squash League, marking the halfway point of the 2022/23 season, brought away wins for former champions RAC and St George’s while Alba Storm beat table toppers Pontefract on games countback.
In the 6pm start RAC made a great start at Crawley with Women’s World Teams player of the tournament Satomi Watanabe easing past English U17 champion Amelie Haworth and Daryl Selby coming from a game down to beat Curtis Malik. Crawley reduced the deficit as British U19 Champion Torrie Malik beat England #1 Sarah-Jane Perry in five, before French world #15 Gregoire Marche wrapped up the tie for RAC.
At Nottingham a strong St George’s outfit took a 3-0 lead with straight-game wins for Jasmine Hutton, Charlie Lee and Gina Kennedy before Nick Wall recorded on of his best wins, beating world #11 Joel Makin in four games.
At Newlands in Glasgow the match against Pontefract swung one way then the other. Katriona Allan got Alba Storm off to the perfect start, but new rectruit Emy Evans levelled for the visitors in five. Donna Lobban restored the home side’s lead with a notable 3-0 win over Hillie Naughton, and although Patrick Rooney levelled the match in straight games, it was the home side who took the bonus points on eight games to seven.
